Wild Certified Sustainable: What does the MSC Certification Mean?

Ocean’s Table is proud to be the only domestically certified Haddock, Pollock and RedFish by MSC.

At Ocean’s Table, not only are we dedicated to bringing you the freshest fish, but we also follow the sustainable fishing practices laid out by the MSC (Marine Stewardship Council). The MSC is an internationally recognized non-profit that rewards fisheries who protect the oceans through responsible fishing. To get the certification, the MSC requires that:

  • “Fish stocks are sustainable-the fishing activity must be at a level which ensures it can continue indefinitely.

  • Environmental impacts are minimized-fishing operations must be carefully managed to maintain the structure, productivity, function and diversity of the main ecosystem.

  • The fishery must comply with relevant laws and have a management system that allows it to respond quickly to changes in the status quo.“ Source: https://www.msc.org/

Why is sustainable fishing important? When you receive your fresh and wild fish from us, on the package you’ll notice a blue MSC ecolabel. This label ensures that your fish can be traced back to a certified sustainable source. With Ocean’s Table the name of the boat your fresh fish came from will be right on the tag. By catching our fish responsibly, we are protecting the oceans now and for our future generations to come. This way we can continue to enjoy fresh seafood without overfishing our oceans.
